Scottish DJ and producer sim0ne is back with another visually-aided banger, “freaky”, and chats with Wonderland about her year. 

Quickly rising to the upper echelons of British dance music, Edinburgh-born, London-based producer and DJ sim0ne has had a huge 2025, playing a plethora of major shows, festivals, and releasing her strongest music to date. She is finishing the year strongly with “freaky”, a playful dance cut that sits within the world of heady trance with spacey vocals and slick synths.

Below, sim0ne exclusively talks to Wonderland about the video, the highs of her 2025, and what’s to come…

“freaky” dives into a chaotic, seductive revival of old-school internet culture. What drew you to reimagining the spirit of OG Chatroulette for this video?

We knew Apple wanted to get involved with us on the video, and recently there’s been a lot of online discourse about ‘lying down MacBook selfies’. I’m actually what comes up under ‘Slutty MacBook Selfie’ on KnowYourMeme.com because one of mine went so viral last year, so I thought it would be fun to play around with this.

Your music has always balanced the hard and the soft — glamour, euphoria and edge. How does “freaky” expand the world you’ve been building sonically?

Lyrically, it’s super tongue in cheek, my friends and I talk a lot about how we need to make dance floors hornier again! I’m personally very pro hooking up in the club, I love making out on the dance floor so ‘freaky’ came about from that, while still incorporating hard dance elements people can throw their bodies around to in a crowd.

Dance music can be deeply emotional, and fans often talk about a feeling of catharsis in your sets. Where does “freaky” sit in that emotional universe for you?

The emotion I really wanted to tap into for ‘freaky’ is that rush of excitement you get when you’re feeling so good you can let your inhibitions go and really let loose. It’s all about feeling sexy and having fun.

What was it like crafting a video with that level of motion and controlled chaos?

Chaos comes easily to me. I’ve always loved dancing: during my sets, at the club, at home in the mirror. It feels good to move your body and we had an incredible team who made it so fun and easy to build up to that moment of release on set.

So much of your artistry is shaped by nightlife, youth culture and rave history. How did those influences filter into this track?

What really captivates me when I watch old rave footage is how free they were on the dance floor. We almost have this Orwellian pressure from smartphones to always behave a certain way out of fear that we’ll be perceived so we always aim to make something so undeniably energetic that people can’t help but move.

You’re on an incredible run — huge festivals, Club Zer0, a debut EP on the way. Can you talk about your evolution as a producer and performer heading into 2026?

Thank you! It’s been a whirlwind, to the point I had to take some time off recently. I’ll never complain about being high in demand, but the only weekend I had off this year was my birthday, which was not spent resting. The travel can be intense, but it’s also the best thing about the job, making friends all over the world and experiencing what’s happening sonically from Shibuya to Chicago first hand is so inspiring and always gives me new ideas to work with.

With a project that’s so high energy and meticulously built, how do you come down creatively after making something like “freaky,” or does the momentum just carry you into the next idea?

I’m one of those people that’s constantly working across multiple projects, constantly going back to tweak things until they feel complete so for me the hardest thing is always that final 5% before you give it to the world and it’s no longer yours. That was the case for “freaky” and my debut record “zer0″’ as a whole but it’s nice that the project is growing as a unit; everything feels cohesive.

Looking ahead, what’s the next chapter of the sim0ne universe — both on the dancefloor and on screen?

We have a super ambitious visual project using really cutting-edge tech coming up alongside the release of my first record that I’m currently finishing in the studio. Aside from that I can’t wait to get back on tour, I’ll be in Australia and Asia at the start of the year then home for fashion month and then we’ll be back into festival season and the party starts all over again.
