There’s a depth to tendai’s uniqueness. He isn’t different because he is trying to be; it’s not a quality he seeks to obtain. His musical vision is, and always has been, refined, yet simultaneously expansive and driven by endless possibility, existing outside the constraints of genre.

The Canning Town native is back with another immersive gem. “My World”, the fourth teaser from his August-set body of work “the rain”, is sparse and raw, pensive and piercing, its zippy guitar riffs and glitchy production a fitting backdrop for tendai’s performance that bursts with poignancy.

The video is accompanied by a sublime black and white visual that Wonderland premieres below…

We speak to tendai about the new video and forthcoming project…

Talk us through the creation of the video for “My World”. How did you convey the sonic and lyrical sentiment within the visuals?
The video to me is just the melancholy of losing a lover. That is what the song feels like to me.

Congratulations on your forthcoming project! How are you feeling about the release?
Thank you, I feel good about it – the world I’ve been building is expanding!

What has inspired the new body of work, musically and thematically?
“the rain” was mainly inspired by heartbreak in the city. There’s something dystopian about feeling isolated in a city full of people. Musically I wanted to pull from London sounds — funky house, garage, uk rap/drill, British RnB — that I’ve grown up with. They are all in my code.

Why is it called “the rain”?
It will make sense at album three.

How does it show your artistic progression from your prior releases?
It shows where I am currently at, the progression is in my own personal growth as an artist and communicator.

What else is to come from you, this year and beyond?
This year we will do a show, do three more Raido Rooms, expand the sound – more music .
